Introducing smartTORQ

Introducing smartTORQ

It's what everyone is looking for when it comes to bolting and connections: a way to verify the torque on a bolt and log the data for job reporting. And Torq/Lite has it.

smartTORQ provides real-time, cloud-based data on each and every bolt you make up. With its one-of-a-kind program, it learns your tools down to specific serial numbers and uses the information to provide torque output recording that is incredibly accurate. It works with any hydraulic or pneumatic bolting tool or pump, and can be used for torquing or tensioning.

The Control XT handheld PDA works wirelessly with a digital gauge to collect your data. The Control then relays that information immediately to a cloud server, where it can be accessed anywhere in the world. Working with WiFi or 3G/LTE capabilities, your information is always accessible. It is also stored locally on the PDA, just in case. Once uploaded, you can export all data into a .csv or .pdf file for reporting.

Traceability is customizable, giving specific instructions to operators directly from supervisors. Set perimeters and approvals for certain operations, and stand by your operators' work. Provide detailed overviews of bolting jobs from the first bolt all the way to the last.

smartTORQ comes in two variations: the Control XT1000 and the Control XT2000, which has all of the same capabilities, but adds the benefit of pump control from the handheld Control unit. All Torq/Lite products are calibrated to +/- 3% accuracy, and the smartTORQ system boasts pressure accuracy of 0.05%. Imagine a world where all of your connections were ensured - and insured.

You can learn more about smartTORQ here. Contact Torq/Lite today for a demo. When it comes to your bolted connections, you can't take chances.

BE SURE.

Solutions and Service

For a long time, our company has provided hydraulic wrenches and other bolting equipment for a wide variety of jobs. Applications ranging across several industries have had Torq/Lite products on them for years, but what you may not know about Torq/Lite may be exactly what you need.

The products that we sell are easily accessible on our Web site, YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Twitter profile. You can dial in on what tool you think you might need, and you can readily find the right person to contact to get information or a quote.

But that isn't all we're about.

There is a lot that goes into bolting, and making sure you have the right tool for your job is very important to us. Often, there is more than one job you have to do. Sometimes, these jobs can be spread out to a few times per year.

We understand that in situations like these, renting tools may be a better option, and that is why we keep a substantial inventory of equipment at all of our locations. Hydraulic wrenches ranging from 1,000 to 60,000 ft./lbs., as well as offshore bolting tools, tensioners, multipliers, sockets, and power units are all kept in good, working condition and calibrations kept up-to-date for when you call for them.

That gives you the choice to tailor bolting packages together the way you need them, and to buy or rent them on a case-by-case basis. You have the ability to choose whichever scenario is more convenient for you.

Customer satisfaction is our goal, and that's what we are hoping to provide along with our tools. We're not just going to ship you tools and leave you standing there, either.

We have technicians with expertise. If you need consultation on your application, we can provide analysis and find the right solution for you. If you need someone to provide training on how to safely operate the equipment, we have people who can do that. You can even rent our technicians to do the job for you.

We also offer custom tooling for uncommon applications. If you can't find a tool to fit, we can design one for you.

From the time you decide you need a tool to turn a nut, until the time that nut is properly tightened, we will be with you every step of the way. You tell us what you need, and we'll provide it. Solutions and service.

If you have an application that you think might be unique, please email info@torqlite.com and request one of our application forms. If you want training on our tools, please contact our Houston office at 713-983-7171 and we will get you in touch with the right person.

Hopefully, you're already getting all you need out of Torq/Lite tools and employees. If you haven't given us a try yet for your bolting needs, we're confident we can provide anything you might need.

We'd like to prove that.

The Importance of Safety

The Importance of Safety

It is something that rises to the surface in most conversations in our line of work.  Something that should not and can not be overlooked, or even back-burnered.  There are several factors to consider when looking for tools, but none more important than safety.

We have incorporated several elements into our tools that idealize the importance of safely completing an operation.  When you use a Torq/Lite wrench, you can be assured that someone has drawn an idea, manufactured a product in the U.S.A., and held and tested that product with the critical eye of protecting operators from injury.

The first thing we did was design our wrenches to be lighter.  This made them easier to handle and operate, decreasing operator fatigue.

The next thing we did was add a hole to attach an optional handle to the tool so that you can safely maneuver it.  From the time you take it out of the box to the time you put it back in, you have complete control.  You can handle and move the tool, and even have a safe place to grip it during operation.

We can show you how to avoid pinch points where the tool is reacting.  Of course, the handle eliminates any need for your hand to be anywhere near potentially dangerous areas, but the unibody design on our XL tools helps prevent pinch points, as well.  The fewer the reaction points, the fewer the areas of risk.

Our IU-XL wrenches also come with a secure retaining pin.  Locked into place with a spring, the pin holds the IU-XL heads to body, so you can be certain the tool is going to stay jointed and get your job done.

Our SU-XL wrenches have a similar feature when attaching the socket to the square drive.

Torq/Lite tools also have patented 360º dual-plane swivels, making the hoses versatile during operation, even when they have pressure in them.  You can maneuver the hoses into any position you need them to be in, which is extremely convenient, but this also helps prevent the pinching of your lines and unnecessary pressure on the quick-connect.  This reduces the chance of leaking and/or spray from the connection, providing even more safety (and less hassle) to your work.

In addition to these features, Torq/Lite will also train anyone who may be operating the tools to do so safely and avoid any potential for injury.  Knowledge is your best friend when it comes to preventing accidents, and our reps can show you the ideal way to get the job done not only safely, but accurately, and quickly.

Our goal is to provide you with safe, quality products and the best possible customer satisfaction.  Whether it be through features we incorporated into our designs or through training from one of our PROS, we want you to feel like you have a great tool in your hands.

To keep your connections tight, you have to keep your operation tight.  Our tools and our people can help remove any potential danger from your application, and can get you where you need to be quickly, accurately, and most importantly, safely.

To take a closer look at our tools, please visit our Web site here, and to get in touch with one of our PROS, you can call our sales office at 713-983-7171.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Hands-on Training

Hands-on Training

Face-to-face meetings are so advantageous. Big fan.

The opportunity to speak with employees and partners from other countries is appreciable but when you can get in the same room, everything just seems more efficient. Not the first time that word has been thrown around the environs of a workplace, I’m sure.

With diagramming, white-boarding, and a little help from Google translate, Torq/Lite hosted a very successful training this week at the Houston, TX location. The representatives from Brazil and other South American countries, already having a firm grasp of the Torq/Lite products, were able to tap into an even deeper reserve of knowledge, courtesy of employees in the Operations department.

They can now take this knowledge back to their territories and spread it to people who use these wrenches everyday, making the work they’re doing safer and..? More efficient. It will also help the current users to maintain and prolong the lives of their tools, saving them money. Which I understand is also important to business.

There is so much to be gained when you can get in the same room and demonstrate. Face-to-face. Minimize any potential for confusion.

Our goal is to help equip you, whether it be with tools or knowledge. In order to pursue that goal of making sure customers are properly-supplied, taking any opportunities to invest in our representatives is impactful.

The more they know, the more our customers know.

Meeting in person, you can show, teach, and explain, but you can also high-five, laugh, and build relationships. You can invest.

As this week’s training comes to a close, I’m happy to say that these aren’t just words. People are leaving with a greater understanding of our products, and the people they talk to will see their knowledge grow, as well.

We were able to teach, We were able to high-five.

I know without a doubt because I saw it. I was there.

Face-to-face.

Be More Efficient

Be More Efficient

Let’s keep it simple.

How does a process become more efficient? Better work. Less time. More profit.

You can’t just have more work, it has to be good work. It has to get the job done the right way.

That good work needs to maximize the time. In an ideal situation, it would take less time to do better work. The better the work and the less time it takes, the more efficient the process is.

Let’s be realistic; I know humans aren’t machines.

But machines are machines.

The Torq/Lite Robo-Spider™ is the world’s first fully-automated torquing system – a machine that is programmed to make up or break out an entire riser flange at once with the push of a button.

It does better than good work. Registering accuracies of +/- 3% on the bolt load, and doing all the bolts at once, the Robo-Spider makes riser connection as strong as they were designed to be.

It does that better work faster, taking the place of manually-operated wrenches that do one bolt at a time. The Robo-Spider can be through with an entire flange in the time it takes to make up or break out one bolt.

Another feature that maximizes efficiency is the lifting fork. Some riser flanges have bolt storage, and that rigorous step means having to stop, lift, and turn the bolt into storage when breaking out. The lifting fork does this for you, saving you time and energy.

On top of the better work in less time, the Robo-Spider also offer a much safer setting by completely removing the human operators from the process. The automation allows for your employees to stay clear of the flange and avoid back-breaking work.

That’s pretty efficient.

Let’s also add that all of this will save money in daily operating costs by minimizing down time. That’s a hat trick.

It’s accurate. It’s fast. And it’s safe.

That’s as simple as it gets.

Case Study: Sevan Louisiana Robo-Spider

Case Study: Sevan Louisiana Robo-Spider

Torq/Lite has completed a new case study outlining the first installation and very successful trial of the Robo-Spider in the field.

In June 2014, the Robo-Spider made it’s way to the Sevan Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. There for a year, it performed as expected and without issues. The data provided by the control panel provided opportunities to make the running and pulling of riser more efficient.

The crew shard their thoughts with some testimonials.

Back from action, the same Robo-Spider that was on the Sevan Louisiana is currently set up for viewing and demos at Torq/Lite’s Houston location. Demo appointments can be made by emailing info@torqlite.com or by calling 713-983-7171.

The full case study can be read here.

The Robo-Spider™

The Robo-Spider™

For years, the questions came consistently.

The process of running and pulling riser on offshore drilling rigs is one of precision and very necessary attention to detail. Technology has been at the forefront of that effort with so many companies looking for ways to make the process more efficient.

The goal was always the same, no matter the step in the procedures. Safer. More accurate. Faster.

One particular task was the bolting. Riser flanges obviously need to be connected (or disconnected) every so often so that they can be run to the ocean floor or taken and stored if pulling the string. The most common connection is a bolted one.

Torq/Lite developed a patented tool 20 years ago for this very reason. Dale Francis, who has almost 40 years of experience in bolting things together, released Torq/Lite’s RT Series riser tools in 1996, designed specifically for making up and breaking out riser bolts.

The RT Series has several innovative features, and has been in circulation since its introduction. Operated two at a time, with two men on either side, the riser tools allow you to work on two bolts at once. The riser tools quickly became the preferred method of bolting riser flanges because of their efficiency and safety improvements in completing this procedure. After all, the operation can be entirely hands-free after placing the tool on the bolt.

Still, the questions kept coming. Questions about automation.”How can we make this process automatic?”

“Is it possible to develop an automated system that can bolt a riser flange?”

“Is there a way to do all the bolts at once?”

Questions like these rang out across the industry, and one of those rings was the phone at Francis’s desk. When asked if it was possible to develop a system to do this — if he was capable of designing such a piece of equipment — his reply was short.

“Yes.”

Today, Torq/Lite introduces its most innovative tool yet: the Robo-Spider. It is the world’s first fully-automated torqueing system, designed to make up or break out all riser flange bolts at once with the push of a button.

Safe.

Six individually-programed modules work together in unison to locate, spin down, and torque all the bolts at one. When the string needs to be pulled, the Robo-Spider will locate, break loose, spin out, and store the riser bolts without the need of any technicians to be anywhere near the spider.

Accurate.

With six modules, you can torque all six bolts at one time, giving you extremely accurate preload on the flange connection. During testing, the Robo-Spider performed to +/- 3% accuracy when measuring the load on the bolt. Now riser flanges can be as strong as they were designed to be.

Fast.

The Robo-Spider can complete the bolting process in about two minutes. Since it is doing all six bolts at once, that eliminates 66% of the time needed to bolt six bolts with two riser wrenches. Time saved is money saved.

The Robo-Spider is the first system of its kind, and with anything new, comes prototypes. The first Robo-Spider went out on the Sevan Louisiana in June of 2014. It was used for a year, and performed as expected, offering a safer, faster option to consider for the bolting process.

Sevan Louisiana Case Study

The crew especially, loved it.

Testimonials

Torq/Lite’s introduction of the Robo-Spider raises the bar for the standard of bolting riser flanges. When the questions came, Francis and his team not only gave the right answer, but delivered a patented design that removes injury from the equation, increases the integrity of the connection, and makes the process more efficient.

It is safer. It is more accurate. And it is faster.

Please let us know if you have any more questions.
